Global Tele-systems Ltd is expected to declare an improved financial performance in 1998-99 as its turnover has increased by 25 to Rs61 crore in the first quarter of 1998- 99 against Rs48 crore in the first quarter of 1997-98 while its net profit has increased to Rs7 crore against Rs15 crore. It is estimated that the company may post a turnover of Rs580 crore in 1998-99 against Rs475 crore in 1997-98 while its net profit may increase to about Rs55 crore from Rs40 crore. The company concentrates on providing marketing and service support to a range of facsimile machines from Canon and Murata, computer peripherals from Redington, dealer boards from V-band and audio and video conferencing equipment from Teledata. Krebs Biochemicals (KB), a bulk drug producer of Hyderabad, is expected to make a net profit of Rs13 crore in 1997-98 and Rs22 crore in 1998-99. It has a paid-up equity of Rs4.60 crore, which gives an earning per share of Rs28 for 1997-98 and a projected Rs50 for 1998-99. Its promoters recently acquired 14 lakh warrants on a preferential basis, which will increase its equity base. KB has been growing at over 150 percent per annum in the last 2 years with exports contributing to 70 percent of its sales. Its scrip was traded at Rs187 on May 15, 1998. (khr)

Nestle posted nearly 32 percent rise in its sales turnover in the first 4 months of the calendar year 1998. It hopes to post a sales turnover of Rs1,800-1,900 crore in 1998. Its net profit may be around Rs140 crore. It made a net profit of Rs73.4 crore in 1997. The fast moving consumer goods segment will be affected by the 8 percent levy on packaged tea imposed by the Government of India in its budget for 1998-99. (gs)
